Firecrawl alternatives: choose by the scraping job

Compare Firecrawl alternatives for single-page scraping, site discovery, rendering, and AI-ready output.

The best Firecrawl alternative depends on the job. Firecrawl covers scraping, crawling, and AI-oriented data workflows. ScrapingBee focuses on fetching pages through an API with rendering and proxy options. url2llm offers synchronous single-page scraping plus a separate URL map endpoint. Compare the exact output and workflow you need, not the number of items in a feature list.

For a developer replacing a single-page scrape call, start with request and response compatibility. For a managed whole-site crawl or current search workflow, verify that the alternative actually supplies that workflow before switching.

What does each tool cover?

Tool Useful starting point Check carefully
Firecrawl Scrape, crawl, and AI data workflows Which endpoint and plan your job needs
ScrapingBee Page fetching with browser rendering and proxy controls Extraction and retry logic you own
url2llm One-page scrape, URL map, several output formats No managed crawl job, JSON extraction, or summary yet

These are product scopes, not performance results. Vendor features and plans change. Verify a current documentation page and test your own pages before deciding.

When is url2llm a useful alternative?

Choose it when your application already controls the page queue and wants a synchronous response for each URL. /v1/map discovers candidate URLs, and /v1/scrape reads each selected page. Available outputs include Markdown, HTML, links, screenshots, brand data, and Shopify data. A billable scrape costs one credit with those currently available formats. A billable map costs one credit per call.

url2llm's request parameter names follow Firecrawl where an equivalent exists, but a migration still needs a field-by-field check. Firecrawl workflows using managed crawl jobs, search, JSON extraction, or summaries need a design change or a different provider today. Do not assume changing only the base URL will preserve those jobs.

For example, a Firecrawl crawl job that returns many pages is not a single url2llm scrape call. In url2llm, call /v1/map for candidate URLs, filter them in your application, and call /v1/scrape for each selected page. Your application owns scheduling, retries, and keeping the result set current. Compare the Firecrawl crawl API with those responsibilities before migrating.

When should you keep Firecrawl or choose ScrapingBee?

Keep Firecrawl if its managed crawling or other integrated workflow is central to your application and you do not want to operate a page queue. Consider ScrapingBee when you want a lower-level page-fetching API and intend to own extraction, formatting, and downstream processing. Check each vendor's current docs for the exact features you use.

For a fair comparison, run the same public URLs through each service. Measure complete usable output, failure classification, latency, and actual bill. Include a simple HTML page, a JavaScript-rendered page, and a blocked or unavailable page. The web scraping API guide gives a test checklist, and the pricing guide shows how to normalize costs.

If you are migrating a single-page scrape, start with one real request in the url2llm playground and inspect the response fields your code consumes. Make the change only after the outputs and failure behavior match your application contract.
